New research implies why dessert might be good for you and, and importantly, why you should eat it ere dinner before of after.

A new study issued in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied found that entertaining in dessert before a feed could truly lead to healthier eating overall. The study tracked 134 university professors, staff, and grad students who continued eating lunch in the cafeteria. Each member was given four separate dessert opportunities over four days: a good selection (fresh fruit) appeared in the dining show before the main and side dish choices, an easygoing choice (lemon cheesecake) appeared before the main dishes, fruit arranged after the main meal choices or cheesecake following the main meal.

Nearly 70 percent of the members who decided on the cheesecake quit on keeping a healthier main trail, like chicken fajitas and a side salad, preferably of fried fish and French fries. Just a third of the characters who chose the fruit first moved on to take a healthy main dish. Overall the characters who chose the cheesecake absorbed 250 fewer calories than those who dented the fruit. The results continued similar when the analysis was quoted in an off-campus online environment as well.

“If we want something healthy first, then this provides us a permission to choose something bigger next,” says Martin Reimann, an assistant teacher of marketing and cognitive psychology at the University of Arizona and co-author of the study. “If you turn it about and choose something more difficult early on, then this license is previously stopped.”
